Campaign for the adoption of organic agriculture and agro-ecological techniques in the Lokoli Swamp Forest (LSF)

From 18 to 24 May 2020, the NGO Act for Development (Act-Dev) implemented a campaign entitled "Campaign for the adoption of organic agriculture and agro-ecological techniques in the Lokoli Swamp Forest (LSF)" for a better conservation of the Lokoli Swamp Forest (LSF). The objective is to stimulate the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices in the villages peripheral to the LSF (Agoïta, Koussoukpa, Dohoue, Dèmè and Hon) through theoretical and practical community training on organic agriculture. A minimum of 200 farmers were mobilized for the implementation of this campaign, which took place in three phases: (i) the presentation of a picture box covering nine (09) scenes each relating to a specific theme, followed by (ii) the projection of a video on the production of neem (Azadiracta indica) extracts for biological control and finally (iii) a practical phase for the presentation of a technique for sowing Cajanus cajan seeds on sloping land with the objective of improving the fertility of the land. It should be noted that at the beginning of each training session, the participants were encouraged to respect the gestures that are barriers to the spread of Covid-19. The implementation of this campaign was made possible thanks to the support of the Beninese NGO ACED, which received a grant from the international organization RARE and the German Government.
